About the vocabulary program VocMaster

VocMaster is a freeware program. VocMaster is based on the vocabulary box system from Sebastian Leitner (1972). You start with unknown vocabularies in the storage box and look at the first question of each card. You try to find the appropriate answer or right vocabulary. There are 2 rules: If you know the answer the card goes into the next box, i.e. from storage to level 1, from level 1 to 2, etc. If you don't know the answer the card always goes back into level 1. Each level has a different size. Level 1 holds 50 cards, level 2 has 100 card, level 3 200 cards, level 400 cards and level 5 has 800 cards. At the beginning the cards in the lower levels are repeated more often since the levels hold less cards. Cards which cannot be memorized so easily will be often repeated. If you know a card quite well it will be rarely repeated. You should learn daily between 20 to 50 vocabularies.

The features of the program:

  • preinstalled sample files in UTF-8 format (English-German, French-German, Spanish-German, Arabic, Hebrew, Latin, Old Greek), right and left write direction are supported, own TTF fonts can be used
  • own files can be imported via CSV import. The vocabulary files are not decrypted which can be edited with text editors.
  • You can browse in files, make changes, swap question and answer or create new cards.
  • The program links to Wiktionary.org so that vocabularies can be read if an internet connection is available. Also internet images from wiktionary can be displayed (can be switched off).
